Howard established Betts & Townsend in Johannesburg in 1995. 

At the inception of the company, his vision was to grow Betts & Townsend into a construction project management consultancy of national renown. He has achieved this goal as Betts & Townsend now strengthens its reputation as a reliable and effective construction delivery and consulting company across Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. 

As chairman of Betts & Townsend he still occupies a leading role in the organisation and spends time on site, doing the hands-on side of the job that he loves.
